Biography

John Duncan the son of Moses Duncan and Sarah Whitmore[1]

Not sure why it is showing so many census not related to John????? shouldnt they be under the actual person that it is for. Very confusing

Marriage

Marriage Estimate 2 August 1823, in Sumner, Tennessee -- Lucinda Senter (aka Lucinda Center)[2]

Jasper Co MO Histories "Hiram, John, Mary, Margaret and William married in Tennessee, and came to Sangamon county ILL with their father. Moses . .. . . It appears from other records that by 1835 the whole family was living in MO"[3]

Death

Death Estimate Unknown (unproven); reportedly before December 1846, in Logan, Kentucky. or possibly Missouri before 1850 Census.[4]

It appears brothers were residing in Lawrence Mo in the 1850 Timeframe

Discrepancy

  • Children should be re-reviewed and reattached to correct parent(s) if confirming sources can be located. (Grandchildren of Moses m Whitmore
  • Likely DNA tests will be the only resolution for correct (unsourced) parent placements

Children Presumed to be those of John m Senter vs Hiram (or other) as his (John children) are not specifically identified by name;

Several Brothers died before The 1850 Census (w/no probate) and their children may have been placed with relatives. See individual Profiles for more detailed information re locations. [[Duncan-5104|John; [[Duncan-4944|Hiram (CA); [[Duncan-17352|David and Archibald Estimated Locations: family migrated from TN to Sangamon Co. IL; AR; Jasper MO to Tulare CA. (Children may have gone from TN to Missouri (and on to California) with others in this family; and may very likely include children of Moses' deceased Sons David and Archibald who died before 1850

Children

Reportedly John and Lucinda were the parents of at least 7 Unidentified children; Children Birth Estimates 1823-1849 Tennessee or Missouri; No Will/Probate located for John to prove or disprove names.

Appear to be "proven" Grandchildren of Moses[5]

  • "Waldo Duncan" (1831-) mar. Nancy Crosley Oct 20 1850) (Jasper Co MO[5]) [6]; (aka David Waldo vs David Duncan vs David Waldo Duncan (b/1831) [7]
  • [[Duncan-16114|Elizabeth Jane Duncan (1823 TN-1906 KS) m Thomas Jefferson Day (most likely the dau of John and Lucinda (in Missouri) vs Contemporary John and Lucretia of Arkansas (co-mingled sources) [8]

Research

(Contemporary / Co-mingled sources for John m Lucretia of Jasper, Crittenden, Arkansas (wrong location as son of Moses) vs John Duncan m Lucinda (son of Moses = Lauderdale AR and Jasper MO) -- No proven family relationship).
