On the middle name Elizabeth for Alison Bruce: Scotland's People's Old Parish Records - Marriage & Banns has two records for the marriage of George and Alison Bruce. The first[6] is cited above, The second, registered in Dalmeny Parish, Names the spouse Elizabeth, rather than Alison, but is clearly referencing the same marriage and the same couple, since the date and the groom are the same. Also, the Dalmeny record, in the original image, names Brigadeer General Bruice of Kennet as Elizabeth's father [7]. I have used "Elizabeth" as Alison's Middle name as a result of this. Note also that "Elizabeth" is used in the baptismal records of the first five chidren, "Alice" in the records of the next two, and "Alison" in the records of the remaining six. George the 21st or 23rd? The entry for the George that married Alison is labelled 21st of Dundas, but the text says “He held the position of 23rd Chief of the Name and Arms of Dundas”, then the list of his children refers to him as 21st of Dundas. His father, also George, has no title in the label, but the text says “He held the position of 22nd Chief of the Name and Arms of Dundas from in 1696”, but lists his son as 21st of Dundas in the list of children. His grandfather has no title in the label, but the text says “He held the position of 19th Chief of the Name and Arms of Dundas from circa 1634”. His G. Grandfather Walter is titled as 18th of Dundas in the label of the entry, but the text says “He held the position of 18th Chief of the Name and Arms of Dundas”. The book "Royal letters and other historical documents selected from the family papers of Dundas of Dundas"[24] provides a clearer picture of the predecessors of George baptised 1690, husband of Alison Bruce. Using the capital roman numerals at the beginning of each paragraph as the ordinal of succession in the title starting with Walter the XVIII at the bottom of page xxxi and continuing to page xl, his son George the XIXth, Georges son Walter the XXth, Walters son Ralf The XXIst (he renounced in favor of his cousin), George XXIInd younger brother of Walter XXth and cousin of Ralf XXIst, George XXIInd married Margaret Hay and had George XXIIIrd, husband of Alison Bruce. This numbering matches “Chief of Name”, where that term is used in the entries in The Peerage. Dundas, Francis De Sales,The Dundas genealogy / [Francis de Sales Dundas] presents a complete pedigree of the clan chiefs from 1100 AD to 1953 AD[25]. This also matches the numbering given the "Chief of Name and Arms" where that term is used in the entries in The Peerage.
