Biography

David Dunkin was born on December 5, 1829, in Montgomery County, Ohio.[1] He was the son of Joshua Dunkin and Julia Ann Smith. He was the eldest child. At age 22 he was still in his parent's home Farming in Carrollton Twp,. Carroll County, Indiana.[2]

He married Mary Dillman on November 15, 1851 in Carroll County, Indiana.[3]

They were making their home in Carellton Twp., Carroll County, Indiana in 1860 where at this time he was engaged in farming, and Mary was tending the home and raising the children, Joseph-7, Margaret-5, and 8 month old Abigale.[4] By 1870, Laura-8, Emma-5 and Charles-1 had been born and were in the household with Joseph-16, Margaret-12 and Abigale now 10.[5] By 1880 they had moved to Harrison, Howard County, Indiana, where they had a farm. At this time Abigal-20, Laura-16, Emma-14, and Charles-11 were in the home along with their 2 Grand daughters, Lorie Dunin -4 and Gertrude Dunkin-2.[6]

He died on September 14, 1908 in West Middleton, Indiana,[7] at the age of 78, and was buried in the Friends Cemetery in New London, Howard County, Indiana.[1]

Note

Family story is that Dunkins owned land on one side of road in W. Middleton, while the Middletons owned land on other side.
At 4th of July, young men of W Middleton would shoot Roman candles at each other.
Spelled name DUNCAN in 1900 & 1910 census, also in wife's obituary.(spelling of input person doing census or doc.)
