William Dunlap was born on February 1, 1796, in Ovid, New York, his father, Andrew Dunlap (1759-1851) and his mother, Mary Wilson (1862-1846). He married Sarah Nevius on December 29, 1819, in Ovid, Seneca, New York. He died on April 10, 1878, in Nankin, Michigan and was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Northville, Wayne County, Michigan.
