Following immigration to USA George's birth year was stated as 1882 in all offical documents, although Irish birth registration shows 1880.

His father Samuel died in 1899 and at some point between 1900 and 1910 Jane Dunlop and family moved to Daviess County, Missouri[6][7].

After his mother Jane's death in 1929, eldest daughter Mary Eliza Dunlop became the head of the household for the Dunlop siblings still living Daviess County, Missouri[9].
George remained living in the same household, which by 1940 was headed by his older brother Robert Dunlop and also living with them was his younger brother Ebenezer "Eben" Dunlop[10].
