Lucy graduated from Winthrop College in 1922. She worked as a teacher after graduating. She taught at various Newberry schools, Brunson, Bryson City, North Carolina, and Fayetteville, North Carolina schools.[3]
She died of melanoma on May 23, 1950, at Kendall Nursing Home in Columbia, Richland, South Carolina, United States[4][5] She was buried at Rosemont Cemetery in Newberry, South Carolina.[6]
