Biography

John Dunn was born in 1749 in Virginia British America, son of John Dunn (~1728 - ~1786) and an unknown mother. His marriage certificate shows he was born in Kentucky, but they must mean Kentucke County, Viriginia. This would be today's eastern Kentucky.

John (~19) married Mollie Dorcas Bryant (~16) (born in North Carolina in 1752; died in Clark, Kentucky in 1823) in 1768 in Virginia.

John Dunn lives in Clark, Kentucky and appears on the 1810 Census.[1] The family is shown like this:

In 1820, there is a John Dunn family in Clark County.[2] Also on the page are: Jeremiah Dunn, Anderson Dunn, and Isham Dunn. Isham is over 45 years old; the other two are in the 26-44 category.

In the Clark Co (KY) Deed Bk.19, P 306 Sep 5 1823 John and Mollie entered into an agreement to sell land to Nathan Tucker.


John died in 1825 in Clark aged ~76.

Research Notes

  • Not clear if he fought in the American Revolution, but he was certainly of age.
  • Marriage Record: Record has this information on it about John and Mollie, Date married and place, where they were born, and year born BUT not sure when this paper was written?


  • In Estill Co (KY) Circuit Court Record Oct 24 1825, Deponent Jeremiah Dunn RE: his grandfather had cancer on his left forehead above his eye. Dowley cured it and state he heard his grandfather say he had such a cancer for about 11 or 12 years and that he was Deceased., David Woodriff Vs. Caleb Dolly

James Clark, Circuit Judge Certifies that John Dunn Jr. b 1749 is the son of John Dunn b. ___ papers end.

  • There was a Frontier Blockhouse built 1755, in Kentucky .... written when?

Dunn-19303 and Dunn-19309 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicated profiles created today of this family same duplicated spouse and child Shadrach.

This is not John Benefield Dunn that is another family. You are using some of my John and Mollie's information. John Dunn Born 1749 and died 1825 there is records for him, I have a marriage record. it says Kentucky for Birth and Marriage. Your John Dunn born 1751 also has a will, and it is not Kentucky and other family information which has nothing to do with my John.

All is documented. I have information for this family of yours, but even they have changed some information re name and gravesite There is no Halifax Virginia at this time, so places do get confusing thank you
