James was born 22 Mar 1900 in Featherston, Tobucksy, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory[2], the son of William Dunn and Josephine Massey.
The sources listed from the “Oklahoma Applications for Allotment, Five Civilized Tribes, 1899-1907” show the Oklahoma and Indian Territory, Land Allotment Jackets for Five Civilized Tribes, application for allotment affidavit, Choctaw Citizenship Certificate. [3][4][5]

Date of birth is as attested to in the Birth Affidavit by his mother Josephine Dunn and the midwife Mary Heywood. This date, 22 Mar 1900 differs from the date 15 July 1900 he provided on his WWI Draft Registration.[6]
