She married in 1912 to Harvey Chord Kester, in Fresno, Fresno County, California. They had two children, a son, Virgil, and a daughter, Erma. The family moved from Fresno to Watsonville, Santa Cruz County, California. During the 1916-1918 Flu outbreak, Harvey Kester passed away in 1918.
In 1920, Nona was widowed, living with her mother Musaetta in Fresno, Fresno County, California. Also living in the household was Nona's siblings Elizabeth, James, and Ernest. Nona's grandfather, her mother's father James was also living in the household. [1]
