"DUNN, JOHN "William Dunn came to Texas where he bought a farm just north of McKinney and raised cotton and cattle. Word got back to his brother, John, of this vast and rich land. In 1890 John loaded up his wife and twelve children and headed this way. He purchased a tract of land in the St. Paul area from a Mr. Durbin. "John married Mary Smotherman in 1861 at Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Eleven of the twelve children were Wallace, Hezekiah, Sidney, Ellis, Nigary, Marzie who married Myah Parker, Frances, Elmirah, Beulah who married George Lokey, Florence (McCartney), Bertie, and Mattie (Champion). "John died on his farm near Seis Lagos close to the home of Fritz Moss. For several years his children tried to farm the land. Mary decided to move to DeKalb to live with her daughter, Mattie Champion. She died there in the late 1920's and was returned to Wylie for burial beside John in the Wylie Cemetery."
