Last Will & Testament

Knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, I Samuel Dunn of the County of Duplin and State of North Carolina, being of sound and disposing memory do make this my last Will and Testament. In manner and form following:
First - I recommend my Soul to God, who gave it me and my body to be directly interred.
Secondly - I give and bequeath unto my nephew Samuel Dunn Hooks, a certain tract, or parcel of land, whereon I now live beginning in the Reedy Branch-Michael Byrd line thence running up Poplar Branch as it meanders with the Ditch, and from the said Ditch one Hundred and fifty yards a direct-North course, thence a westerly course, to strike a large pine on the west side of the main road: Elias Faisons and Samuel Dunn's corner; thence with Elias Faison : James Dunn's : Belle Wolfs Joining cornerly, and Michael Byrds Line to the Branch and down the said Branch to the beginning (reserving with Samuel Dunn his heirs and assigns, also his family connection, one half of an acre of said land to be used as a family burying ground, wherein his wife is now buried, and to them alone in fee simple and forever. I also give him the said Samuel Dunn Hooks, the following Negroes: Cato, Chloe, Violet, Clary and all her children, also two horses, one named Dolphin and one called Medler, two cows and calves, a stock of hogs, which he, Samuel Dunn Hooks, feeds near Richard Wolfs, one feather bed and furniture, one cale? desk, half a dozen of Windsor chairs, also one shot gun, one saddle and bridle, one ox and one horse cart, and one yoke of oxen, one tea table and one common pine table.
Thirdly - I give and bequeath unto my niece Francis Dunn, daughter of my nephew James Dunn, my Negro woman Dinah and her two children, also one feather bed and furniture, and one new bureau.
Forthly - I give and bequeath unto my niece Elizabeth Dunn, daughter of my nephew James Dunn, one Nero girl called Eliza.
Fifthly - I give and bequeath unto my nephew James Dunn, son of my nephew James Dunn, one Negro boy called Stepney.
Sixthly - I give and bequeath unto my niece Sivil Hooks, daughter of David Hooks, one Negro woman called Rachele and her child Ann and all her increase, one wash stand, and one feather bed and furniture.
Seventhly - I give and bequeath unto my nephew James Dunn his heirs and assigns forever, the remainder of the land that I purchased from my brother William Dunn (say about four hundred and fifteen acres), the other part of said land. I have deeded to him heretofore all of which tract of land was formerly owned by James Clark. Also my Negro man Cam (now in his possession). Also my Negro woman Hanah and her six children: Silvia, Alexander, Washington, Telley, Esther, Mary, and their increased.
Eighthly - I give and bequeath unto my brother Robert Dunn my gold watch.
Ninethly - I give and bequeath unto my brother William Dunn, all my Estate, both Real and personal of every description (not all ready devied), including lands, Negroes, stock, furniture, and goods and every part and parcel of property which may remain (after giving the legacy heretofore made and devised).
Tenthly - it is my wish and request that my brother, William Dunn, shall pay out of his own funds all the debts that I may owe.
Lastly - I nominate and appoint my brother, William Dunn, and my nephew, James Dunn, executors to this my last will and testament. Revoking all other will or wills, heretofore made by me.
Signed, sealed and acknowledged in presence of Lieut? Jas. H. Hicks, Wm B. Barden. This twenty eighth day of January 1829.
