Mrs. Olive Jane (Dunn) Rutherford was born in Ohio, Sept. 21, 1850, passed away Monday morning Sept. 16, 1907.
Miss Dunn lived in Ohio until she was grown to young womanhood, then with her people she came to Marion Co., Iowa, near Knoxville, where she met, and afterwards married, W. F. Rutherford. They were married in Oct. of 1876. With the exception of one year which was spent in Kans., her married life has been spent in their home county, near Knoxville, Ia., except the past five years which have been spent in this county, the past year being spent in Kirksville.
Nine children have been born to this union. Two of these, one son and one daughter passed away in infancy. The other children are here present today with the father and husband to share in each others sorrow in this sad hour. The one daughter, Mrs. Beth Kirby, lives near Oskaloosa, Iowa, and one son Edward lives near Knoxville, Ia. The other children, Ora, Corda, Beth, Frank and Albert, are still at home.
Sister Rutherford united with the Christian church while she was yet a young woman. During her life she has been a quiet yet earnest life, much of her time devoted in caring for her family, and her children have grown up to revere and love the memory of their mother.
The legacy she leaves to her family is one that endureth unto everlasting life. For the past 15 years Mrs. Rutherford has been in declining health, and the past few years at times has been very poorly.
The funeral was held at their late residence, 701 E. McPherson, Sept. 18, 1907. Interment took place in Forest Cemetery.
