Note: 2013: SACO, ME - Raymond R. Dupuis, 94, of Saco, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. He was born in St. Norbert, P.Q., Canada on Aug. 21, 1918, the son of Eugene and Rose (Bouffard) Dupuis. The family moved to the United States when Ray was young. He was educated in Saco schools. At the age of 15, during the Great Depression, Ray made his way to Florida for employment. Several years later, he came back north to work at The World's Fair in New York. He married his wife Margaret on July 4, 1942. He served his country in the United States Army. While stationed in the Aleutians of Alaska, during World War II, he was in heavy combat for several months with the Japanese. He was promoted to Master Sergeant in the field. After the service, Ray was employed as an industrial plumber for The Mahaney Company in Biddeford. At the age of 40, he began his poultry farming career in Saco. He worked with the University of Delaware and the Maine Cooperative Extension Service to build the first fully automated windowless broiler house in the nation. He worked with Governors Reed and Curtis in promoting the broiler industry. In later years, Ray assisted his daughter Lynn-Marie with breeding and raising standardbred race horses for the Maine Breeders Stakes Program. He faithfully went to the Elks every Thursday until his health would not permit it. He enjoyed field days and softball with the Elks. He was tri-city champion in cribbage doubles with his brother Richard multiple times. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Morin) Dupuis on Oct. 13, 2005;. by two sisters, Anita Rowe and Theresa Menard and by two brothers, Gerard and Richard Dupuis. He is survived by three daughters, Susan Rice and her husband Stephen, Bridget Scontras and her husband Peter, Lynn-Marie Plouffe and her husband Bruce;. five grandchildren, Sarah Henris and her husband Jason, Stephen Rice and his wife Lisa, Carol-Ann Scontras, Nicholas Scontras and Roger Smith and his fiancee Shelley Gagnon;. five great-grandchildren, Jason Henris, Sean Rice, Michaela Smith, Sabrina Rice, and Mackenzie Henris;. one sister, Cecile Gentile, four brothers, Maurice Dupuis and his wife Bernice, Joseph Dupuis and his wife Rachel, Norman Dupuis and his wife Lorraine and Eugene Dupuis and his wife Esther ; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Biddeford. [1]
