Cornelis was a son of Moses du Puits and Maria Wynkoop, baptized in the Reformed Dutch Church of Kingston, New York, on 1 January 1688. The baptism record names his parents as Moses du Puits and Maria Wynkoop. The witnesses were Johannes Wynkoop, Evert Wynkoop, and Judith Fransen.[1]
He was married to Catrina Van Aaken on 6 May 1713, after registering banns on 19 April. The marriage was recorded in the Reformed Dutch Church of Kingston, New York. The record names them as "Cornelis de Pue, j. m., and Catrina Van Aaken, j. d., both resid. under the jurisdiction of Rosester (Rochester)."[2]
Religion
Cornelis and Catrina were members of the Reformed Dutch Church at Wawarsing as early as September 1747. Church records show that Cornelis Dupuy was received into the congregation on credentials along with his wife, Catharina VanAken , and son, Abraham Dupuy on 28 September 1747.[3] On 5 March 1752, Cornelis Depuy and Catharina Van Aken witnessed the baptism in Wawarsing of John, son of Isak van Kampen and Elsje Elten. [4] On 1 November 1755 they were witnesses to the baptism in Wawarsing of Cathrientje, daughter of Andries A De Witt and Marya Depuy.[5]
Note: Marriage Records (1660-1809); Baptism Records (1660-1809); Burial Records (1696-1881). The Kingston Reformed Dutch Church was the central repository for all records of marriages and baptism conducted by circuit-rider Domines throughout Ulster and Orange counties of NY; Sussex County, NJ, and parts of Pike County, PA, until local churches were built and staffed. This occurred between 1735 and 1745 depending on the area.
DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Cornelis by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Cornelis:
De Puy-10 and Dupuis-578 appear to represent the same person because: The dates don't match, and of course the spellings are variable, but the combination of Cornelis, his wife Catherine, and daughter Maria suggests that these are the same person. Please review and see if you agree that these are the same.
