Biography

Profile Improvement Voyage Guide
Profile Improvement Voyager
TC has completed the Profile Improvement Project's Voyage
TC Duran is a member of the Hartzell Name Study Project.

I'm an active member of WikiTree, and I assist the Profile Improvement Project by serving as a Voyager Guide. I'm also a Hartzell Name Study Coordinator.

Most of my research has been focused on Pennsylvania German (Pennsylvania Dutch) roots in eastern Pennsylvania. I also occasionally study Texas, Cuba, the Philippines, and the United Kingdom.

My maternal haplogroup is H6a1b2, and my paternal haplogroup is C-M130. The DNA estimate from 23andMe indicate the following:

53.5% French and German with the strongest evidence of ancestry and a “likely match” from Hesse, Thuringia, and Bavaria, Germany and a "possible match" from Canton of Bern, Switzerland.
23.6% British and Irish with the strongest evidence of ancestry and a “highly likely match” from Greater London, Greater Manchester and Glasgow City, United Kingdom and a "likely match" from County Donegal, Ireland.
7.1% Spanish and Portuguese.
4.7% Filipino and Austronesian.

I enjoy collaborating, and welcome any help!

My biggest brick walls (so far) are:

Lorenzo Durán and Remono Del Valle - They probably resided in Polangui, Albay, Philippines. They may have immigrated from the Philippines to Hawaii in the late 1800's.
Robert Laird and James Russell - Father-in-laws, their children were married in Northern Ireland. They were probably Protestant and born in either Scotland or Ireland.
Manuel Lamas and Emilia Tubueta - They were probably from Cuba.

Dear TC,

The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing a check-in with project members. Please review the following and respond to let us know that you are content with your current team or if you would like to be more involved.

The Project operates in a team structure. There are currently three participant PIP Teams -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team which guides new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team.

There are currently three different Biography Teams - The Biography Team, the Abandoned Team, and the Popular Team.

You're currently identified as a member of the Popular Team. The Popular Team works on profiles identified by the Team to be often searched via the internet. Voyage graduation is required to be a member of this team.

Are you happy with the Team you are on? If you are interested in working with a different Team, please let us know.

If you have not already done so, we invite you to join the email GoogleGroup and text chat Discord channel for our project. (You will need your Wiki ID for both). Neither is required; we also use the Profile_Improvement tag in G2G for Project announcements.

We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project meet its goals. We would like to hear about the successes you’ve had and would also appreciate any feedback you have to help improve the Project. Please share your thoughts in a reply to this comment or via private message to one of us.

Hi,

It’s Germany Project check-in time again! Please respond within the next 2 weeks and let me know if you’re still interested in participating with the Project. Remember, the only requirements for membership in the Germany Project are (1) that you work on at least one German profile every 6 months and (2) that you respond to this check-in.

Since you’re not working with one of our Sub-projects or Teams yet, please look at our main Project page for a full list and let me know which team you’d like to join.

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. In your response, we welcome any feedback you may want to give on the project (what you like about it, what you’d like to see us do, what we could change, etc.)

If you ever have any questions, please ask. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

We are in the process of transitioning to a team structure. There will be three participant PIP Teams to start -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team which guides new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team.

You're currently identified as a member of the Voyage Guide Team. Please let us know if you would like to help with any of the other Teams.

We would also like to invite you to join the email GoogleGroup and text chat Discord channel for our project. (When you request to join our GoogleGroup, please be sure to include your Wiki ID). We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project and WikiTree. The Project’s mission is to:

Make profiles beautiful! We clean up messy biography sections and sources, and try to set standards for attractive, useful, and well-written biographies, starting with those we manage.

We know you’re working on profiles *smile* We would like to hear about successes you’ve had toward the Project’s goals. We would also appreciate any feedback you might have to help us improve the Project. Please share your thoughts in a reply to this comment or privately via private message to either of us.

Thanks for checking in.

I’m a huge PIP fan, and I feel comfortable in my role as a member of the Voyage Guide Team. I also love the new PIP Rubric and the PIP Project Teams. I’d be happy to help the Biography Team Level 3.

I’m still plugging away at getting my Watchlist profiles up to a level 3, and I’ve been successful in getting most of them up to a level 2.

Thanks for all you do, Debi and Robin!

Thanks, TC. We really appreciate you staying on as a Guide. I've added you to our list of Level 3 Biography writers.

Here's a link to the Bio Team Level 3 page where you can find the lists of profiles that need to be improved. This is a work at your own pace task but we'd love to have you share successes with the Group.

Let us know if you have any suggestions to make the Project better.

Hi TC,

I've added the Palatine Migration badge to your profile and left the Germany project badge there. But when I signed you up for the Palatine project, I enrolled you in our Google group but I did not enroll you in the Germany project Google group. Here is the link to join them, if you haven't already done so: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/wikitreegermanroots

Best regards,

Welcome to Team Cornbread Catchers, TC. I saw you pop in to the Hangout, so that parts working. We also have a GoogleGroup for emails that we'll be using during the event, as well as the chat thread in G2G.

The Google Group isn't required. If you would like to participate, please reply to this message via email or private message so that I will be able to send you an invitation. If you use different email addresses for Google and WikiTree, I'll need to know your Google email.

Go Team Cornbread Catchers!

TC Duran thank you for the posts for the Bruch surname . However most of them are no relation to me.

Hello, Delores.

I think you may be referring to your "Wiki Genealogy Feed" on your "My WikiTree: Navigation Home Page." I often get updates on familiar surnames that I'm not (directly) related to there, as well. My changes are showing up on your feed because "Bruch" is on your list of followed tags.

Thanks for contacting me.  :)

Hi TC,

Re your clarification concerning Williams Township. I have made the correction. We do strive to use the place names as they were known at the time. And the drop down menus can be helpful, but they also can be wrong sometimes. They are from Family Search and we do not have to use their suggestions if they are not right.

When you add notes like this, and are certain of your research as you are in this case, please fell free to make the appropriate correction in the data field yourself. That sort of participation is encouraged by the project!

Thanks for pointing out this correction!

Great work on Hans Leonhard (John) !! Feel free to add him and his wife as parents of Christian! Thanks cousin!  :-)

I agree with you and Dave about the parents of Hans, But we do not know when Anna Eva died. It was an estimate since George married Christina in 1736. Anna and George could have been divorced and she could have died during or after childbirth. We do not know until we find a source for the day of death. Thanks for your help.

Hi T,

Thanks for having a big heart and adopting the Orphaned Profiles. This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention those profiles need.

I noticed that several of the profiles need GEDCOM cleanup (YouTube video). I recommend adding links to the profiles of family members, rather than removing as recommended in the video.

Let me know if you have any questions on how to find and record sources, merge duplicates, clean up gedcom biographies, and interpret the Suggestions report. I'm here to help!
