Elizabeth Durden or Dearden was born in 1839, and christened on 22 Mar 1840 at the church of St Mary the Virgin in Prescot, Lancashire. She was the daughter of John and Sarah Durden. Her father's occupation was recorded as glass polisher, and the family's address as Eccleston.

By June 6th 1841, they were living in Schooles Lane, Eccleston. John was working as a glass polisher. Sarah's sister Ann Briars was staying with them when the census was taken.

Elizabeth's father died in 1843, aged 32. He was buried on 4 May 1843 at Christ Church, Eccleston; his address was recorded as Eccleston (and the grave number as 46).

Her mother died in about 1844, aged 28. She was buried on 4 Jan 1844 with her husband (in grave 46, Christ Church Eccleston). Her address was recorded as Eccleston.
