Biography

Benjamin was born on February 25, 1834, in Alabama. He was the son of Thomas Duren and Margaret Brothers.

Benjamin married Susannah Cole on October 26, 1856, in Cherokee County, Texas.

Benjamin F. Duran served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He served in Company D 7th Calvary in Green's Brigade. [1] He was living in Angelina county in 1860. He lived the last part of his life at Crockett where he was a land surveyor and real estate agent. He may have served in one of the county offices.

He passed away on July 11, 1906, in Crockett, Houston, Texas.[2] So far, no grave has been found.

1850 - United States Federal Census - In the 1850 census, Jessee (sic) Duren, 46, and his wife, Margarett , 33, are living in Houston County, Texas, with their children, Nancy, 18; Susan, 16; Benjamin F., 15; William, 13; Phillip, 11; Margarett, 9; Caroline, 7; Labonia, 5; and Marcy, 3. Jesse is listed as farming.[3]

October 26, 1856 - Marriage - Married Susannah Cole in Cherokee County, Texas.[4]

1860 - United States Federal Census - In the 1860 federal census, Benjamin F.,Duren, 26, is living near Homer in District 2,Angelina County, Texas, with his 19-year-old bride, Susan Duren. Benjamin is listed as a farmer.[5]

1870 - United States Federal Census - In the 1870 federal census, B. F. Duren, 31, is living with his wife, S. W. Duren, 28, in Precinct 2, Houston, Texas. Living with them are their children, Margaret Duren, 8; and Jesse Duren, 1. Also living with them is Mahala Duren, 13. Benjamin is listed as a farmer. Mahala is the family's cook.[6]

1880 - U. S. Federal Census - In the 1880 census, B. F. Duren, 46, a surveyor, says he was born in Mississippi. B.F. and his wife, S. W., 38, are living in Houston County, Texas, with their children, M. L. Duren, 18; J. F. Duren, 11, and M. C. Duren, 9.[7]

July 11, 1906 - Death - Crockett, Houston, Texas.
