Ellen I Durkee was born about 1859 in Pleasant Valley, Nova Scotia, Canada.[1] Her parents are uncertain (See notes).

Family

Ellen married Ernest Edmund Crosby 24 Jan 1880 in Yarmouth, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada.[2][3][4]

  • There are two headstones for Ellen Durkees in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Ellen J Durkee is on a joint stone with her brother Judson. It reads "children of J.M. and M Durkee." Her death date is listed as June 28, 1893 and her age is listed as 34. Giving her a birth year of 1859 unless she was born before June. Judson can be found in the 1891 census with his parents John and Margery Durkee. Ellen I Durkee (possible middle name Iris as found on Family Search) was married to Edward Crosby. Her parents are listed as John and Margery on their marriage record. I can't read the dates on her stone with certainty or her middle initial so I requested a new photo on Findagrave. She is on a joint stone with Edward's daughter Charlotte from his second marriage to Penzy McWilliams so this definitely ties both wives to him (Charlotte was born after the date of death on the stone if the dates are correct). If Ellen has two stones, where is she buried? What is her initial? Which has the correct death date? Were there two couples named John and Marjory Durkee?
