In 1880, Nellie R. Ball, 23, lived with her husband Jasper C. Ball, and two children in Sheridan, Chautauqua, New York.[10]
In 1892, Jasper Ball, 39, and Nellie Ball, 36, lived in the Busti District, Chautauqua County, New York, with 5 children:[11]
Nellie and Jasper were divorced prior to 1920, as Jasper is shown as James C.J. Ball on that census, living in Mill Creek, Erie, Pennsylvania, with wife Clara and two young children.[12]
Nellie R. Durrell Ball, 73, married Jay A. Dye, 76, on 23 Dec 1929 at Chautauqua, New York. Both were of Jamestown, Chautauqua, New York, and it was the 2nd marriage for both.[1]
The Union Sun & Journal of Lockport, Chutauqua County, New York, carried the following obituary:
"Grandmother of Actress Died at IOOF Home
"Mrs. Nellie D. Ball Dye, 89, grandmother of Film Actress Lucille Ball, died Friday at the Odd Fellows Home in Lake Avenue where she had been a resident for the past six years. She had been in failing health for some time.
"Mrs. Dye was born in Dunkirk on Oct. 9, 1846, and came to the home as a member of Princess Rebekah Lodge, 252, Chautauqua. She leaves one son, F. Clinton Ball, of Watts Flats, who is the father of the film actress, and three daughters; Mrs. Maude Shipman of Lily Dale, Mrs. Blanche Finley and Mrs. Mabel Johnson of Florida.
"'Services will be held Monday afternoon t 2 o'clock at the home."[13]
