DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Abigail by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Abigail:
Duston-111 and Duston-25 do not represent the same person because: Samuel and Mary Watts of Woburn raised a family at the same time as Samuel and Abigail (Duston) Watts of Haverhill raised a family. Thus, they cannot be the same couple. However, it may also be true that Samuel and Mary (Duston) Watts of Haverhill and Samuel and Abigail Watts of Haverhill may be the same couple. Based on auDNA pedigree triangulation it seems likely Zeda Knox, 3rd great-granddaughter of Samuel and Mary of Woburn, is a Duston-Watts descendant. The simplest explanation is that Samuel and Mary (Duston) Watts of Haverhill, not Samuel and Abigail (Duston) Watts of Haverhill, were her ancestors. See note at Duston-111 for argument and sources.
I have them in a hypothetical tree, but seem to remember marriage records for Abigail & Sam in Haverhill and records for Mary and Sam in a nearby town. That kept me from pulling the trigger until I could triangulate with DNA. Give me a couple of days to look into my research again. Thanks, Steve
Duston-111 and Duston-25 appear to represent the same person because: It was Abigail Duston, the 7th child of Thomas and Hannah (Emerson) Duston who married Samuel Watts II. Abigail had a sister named Mary who died in 1696. It's uncertain why the marriage record lists her name as Mary instead of Abigail. Abigail Duston Watts died May 5, 1727, listed as "Abigail (Duston) Watts w. Samuel." [Massachusetts: Vital records 1620-1850 Haverhill V-2, pg. 483]
