Martha was born in Lunenburg, Massachusetts on 23 December 1861.

In 1865, Martha was living in Lunenburg with her widowed mother Eliza (42y) and her three siblings. Martha (4y) was the youngest. Her siblings and their ages were: Mary Elizabeth (15y), George James (11y) and Charles Robert (9y).

In 1880, Martha was 18 and worked in a button factory. She was living with her mother, Eliza Dutton (57), and her two brothers, George J. (26) and Charles R. Dutton (24). They were living in Leominster, Massachusetts.

On 17 November 1887, Martha married Alfred Brenton McPherson in Leominster, Massachusetts. She was 26 and he was 27.

On 10 May 1889, their son, Leon Brenton McPherson, was born.

On 14 November 1895, their daughter, Irene Frances McPherson, was born.

In 1900, Martha (40), her husband Alfred (40), their son Leon (11) and their Daughter Irene (5) were living in Leominster (northeast quarter), Massachusetts. Levinia Tolman was living with them.

In 1910, Martha (49) was living with her husband Alfred (50) and her daughter Irene (14) in Leominster.

In 1920, Martha (59), her husband Alfred (59), their son Leon (30) and their Daughter Irene (24) were living in Leominster (Ward 3), Massachusetts.

In 1930, Martha (69) and Alfred (69) continued to live in Leominster. No one was living with them.

In 1940, Martha (79) was living with her daughter Irene (44) and son-in-law Fred (46) in Worcester City, Worcester County, Massachusetts.
