William traveled with his father in 1747 to Augusta County, Virginia. His father having purchased land from Robert Green.
William as out hunting and upon his return to the Fort, he was waylaid by Indians. He attempted to defend himself when his flintlock neglected to prime and he was struck by several balls. This alerted the Fort to the attack. Nicholas Seybert, son of the Captain stood up, took aim and fired his own flintlock. He was rewarded by wounding one of the Indians - alas this was the only injury inflicted on the attacking Indians. [1]
