Frederick William Dyer was born in 1889 in Exeter, Devon, England to William Dyer and Ellen (Gale) Dyer. His birth was registered in Exeter in the last quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Gale.^[1]

In 1891 Frederick W Dyer (age 1) lived in Exeter with his father William (25, Baker), mother Ellen (27), and two servants: James Coombes (15, Baker) and Thomas Darch (21, Baker).^[2]
