Joseph, the drop down menus are often incorrect. They were borrowed from FamilySearch and do meet wikitree standards - they are just suggestions. The because of the many instances where counties share names with towns and cities, it is correct to add the word County every time a county is intended.
Joseph, I have discussed the County matter with wikitree and posed the question in the g2g forum. Adding county or a parish to location name is a matter of preference. County and parish are both accepted in the location categories. While it isn't necessary to add it when you have city or town, it is wise to add it to location when no town or city is listed. This differentiates it from being a city or town. While sources and vital information is welcomed and appreciated, please refrain from making uneccesary changes to the profiles I manage. How you handle those you manage is up to you.
When you type the word county, you will see a text box open automatically, which will indicate the proper identification of the location. You will never see the word county in any of the indicated location names. Please refrain from typing the word county. Thank you.
