Edna was born in 1908. She was the daughter of John Dykes and Maud Cross. She married first Clarence Kerwood Whitman in 1927 and lived with him in Columbus, Ohio. They had 2 young children, according to the 1930 Census, Jerry and Dean.
Edna married second Everett Kaehele in 1934 in Detroit, Michigan. By the 1940 U.S. Census she was living with her sister Iva Slatter in Columbus, Ohio. She was now divorced, and had 4 children listed, all born in Ohio: Jeremiah, 11, Dean, 9, Richard, 8 and Sharon, 2.
Edna was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 1947 and she wrote a book, 'Living with Cancer', which explained her approach to living a healthy, positive life despite her diagnosis. She passed away more than 20 years later, in 1969 in Columbus, Ohio and is buried in Sunset Cemetery, Galloway, Ohio. There is a photograph of a headstone that she shares with her two sisters, Iva and Dorothy.
