Harold was born in 1926. He passed away in 2011. He was the son of Howard and Hazel Baker Dykes. While a Senior at Lutheran High School in Wyandotte, Michigan, he was drafted into the United States Army., stationed in Anniston, Alabama. He married his first wife there and returned to Michigan. He started his own business, a street and parking lot cleaning service, Mobile Power Sweeping . They had two children, Terry and Penny. He was divorced in 1971. He married Mary Gill Pagan , a widow. They continued the business until about 1985 and moved to their sailboat, a 37 ft. ketch, MAHAME , that was sailed to Burnt Store Marina, on Charlotte Harbor in Florida a few years before , and used for winter home. Harold loved sailing and the lifestyle. My mother was in her eighties and living alone in Tennessee . In 1989 we went to spend the summer with her and our life changed. We decided to stay and open a retirement home so I could be with my mother. We bought a historic 125 year old house ( eventually two more ) , restoration for a year. The next 25 years we cared for the elderly. Harold was loved by all. He died in 2011and I plan for his ashes to be spread somewhere warm in the water. Wonderful human being and husband of 39 years.
