Margaret was born May 26, 1933 in New York City, New York. She is the daughter of Andrew Dykes and Sarah Gates.

She married Archibald James McDonald on December 9, 1851 in Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana.^[1]

Widowed in 1874, Margaret died on October 29, 1913 in Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana, USA.^[2]

"Mrs. Margaret Hamilton McDonald, aged eighty years, a pioneer of Ft. Wayne and the widow of Archibald McDonald died early yesterday morning at the home of her daughter Mrs. J.V. Costigan, 848 Lake avenue, after a prolonged illness from paralysis. Her condition had been critical for the past week.

Mrs. McDonald was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Dykes, early settlers in Fort Wayne. She was born in New York city, May 26, 1833, shortly after her parents came to this country from Scotland. While still an infant she was brought to Fort Wayne by her parents and had resided here ever since. The trip to Fort Wayne was made almost entirely by wagon through vast forests. The family moved here before steam roads or the old Erie canal had been built through this territory.

For a few years after her marriage she lived in Canada, but the remainder of her life spent was spent in Fort Wayne. Surviving besides her daughter is a son, James McDonald, of Chicago. Funeral service will be held Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the residence of Mrs. Costigan. Interment at Lindenwood. Margaret is buried next to her parents."
