After the death of his mother in 1874 he left Burwardsley and joined his older brother, James, in Liverpool. Shortly after his arrival he met and married Sarah Owens[2]. The marriage took place at St Mary's Church in Edge Hill and was witnessed by James Dykes and Elizabeth Robinson.
