Biography

Thornton Shirley Dysart, son of Johnston and Mary E. (Simmons) Dysart, was born May 22, 1881 in Collin County, Texas.[1]

The 1900 U.S. Federal Census records “Johnse T. Dysart,” age 73 born Dec 1826 in KY (both parents born in VA), as a farmer living in Collin Co. Texas. In his household are his wife Mary E. age 62 born July 1837 in KY, son Samuel H. age 45 born Mar 1855 in MO, daughter Lalla R. age 29 born Dec 1870 in TX, son Thornton S. age 19 born May 1881 in TX, and a servant Hettie Deherrey age 12 born Aug 1887 in KY. Johnson and Mary have been married for 47 years and she has borne 12 children with 10 still living. In the next household is a farmer James F. Dysart, age 32 born March 1868 in TX recorded as married 2 years but no wife’s name is recorded.[2]

“Thornt Dysart” married Hattie Horn on January 1, 1904 in Collin Co., Texas.[3]

The 1910 U.S. Federal Census records Mary E. Dysart, age 72 born in Kentucky, as a widowed head of household living in Collin Co., Texas. Mary is recorded to have had 13 children with 10 still living. In her household are son S.H. a single man age 55 born in Missouri working as a farmer, son Thornton age 28 born in Texas working as a farmer, daughter in law Hattie age 28 born in Texas, and grandson Fred S. age 4 born in Texas. Thornton and Hattie have been married for 5 years and have had one child. In the same area is J.C. Dysart and his wife Mattye L. and 2 daughters, F. T. Dysart and his wife Blanche and 2 daughters.[4]

The U.S. WWI Draft Registration Card signed by T.S. Dysart on September 12, 1918 records his name as “Thornt Shirley Dysart,” age 37 and birthdate as May 22, 1881. He is a resident of Fredonia, Wilson Co., Kansas where he is an oil pumper and lease manager for the C.H. & D. Oil Co. His wife’s name is Hattie.[5]

The 1920 U.S. Federal Census records Thornton Dysart, age 38, living in Amarillo, Potter Co., Texas and working as a distributor for a tractor company. In his household are his wife Hattie age 38 and son Fred age 14.[6]

The 1930 U.S. Federal Census records Thornton S. Dysart, age 48, living in Amarillo, Potter Co., Texas and working as a manager for an automobile company. In his household is his wife Hattie age 48.[7]

The 1940 U.S. Federal Census records T.S. Dysart, age 58, living in Amarillo, Potter Co., Texas and working as an automobile salesman. In his household is his wife Hattie age 58.[8]

Thornton Shirley Dysart died November 11, 1953 in Amarillo, Potter Co., Texas and was buried in Llano Cemetery, Amarillo, Potter Co., Texas.[9]
