Joseph Edward Dysart, son of James and Deliah (Fike) Dysart, was born April 30, 1858 in Mifflin Co., Pennsylvania.[1]
Joseph Edward Dysart age 2 years has not been located on the 1860 Census.
The 1870 U.S. Federal Census records Joseph E. Dysart, age 12 born in PA living in the household of Henry and Mary Fike and their family in Bratton Township, Mifflin Co., Pennsylvania.[2]
On the 1880 U.S. Federal Census there is a “Joseph Disert” age 22 born in PA living in Millville, Cambria Co., Pennsylvania. He is a laborer and boarding with a family along with other single men laborers.[3]
In 1881 Joseph Edward Dysart married Alice Gertrude Ross. She was born March 6, 1858 in Mifflin Co., Pennsylvania and died May 26, 1894 at 36 years of age. She was buried in Mapleton IOOF Cemetery, Mapleton, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.[4]
J.E. Dysart and Bertha A. McConahy were married June 4, 1896 in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. The marriage license information indicates that his father is James Dysart and his mother was Delilah Hesser.[5]
The 1900 U.S. Federal Census records Joseph E. Dysart, age 53 born May 1847 in PA, as a day laborer, living in Mapleton, Huntingdon Co., Pennsylvania. In his household are his wife Bertha S. age 28 born Aug 1871 in PA, daughter Martha M. age 3 born Nov 1896 in PA, son Harry E. age 2 born Jan 1898 in PA, and daughter Ruth Alice age 10 months born July 1899 in PA. Joseph and Bertha have been married for 4 years and she has had 3 children all of whom are still living.[6]
The 1910 U.S. Federal Census records Joseph E. Dysart, age 50 born in PA, as a foreman at the sand works, living in Mapleton, Huntingdon Co., Pennsylvania. In his household are his wife Bertha A. age 37 born in PA, son LeRoy J. age 9 born in PA, son Charles W. age 7 born in PA, and son Jay S. age 4 born in PA. Joseph and Bertha have been married for 13 years and Bertha has had 6 children with 3 still living. Joseph records that this is his second marriage.[7]
The 1920 U.S. Federal Census records Edward J. Dysart, age 61 born in PA, as a foreman at the sand works living in Mapleton, Huntingdon Co., Pennsylvania. In his household are his wife Bertha A. age 48, son James L. age 18, son Charles W. age 17, son Steward J. age 13, daughter Beulah A. age 8, and son Paul L. age 2 yrs 9 months. All were born in PA.[8]
The 1930 U.S. Federal Census records “Joseph Daysart,” age 71 born in PA, as a foreman at the sand works living in Mapleton, Huntingdon Co., Pennsylvania. In his household are his wife Bertha A. age 58, son Le Roy age 29, daughter Beulah age 18, and son Paul L. age 13. All were born in PA.[9]
Foreman: Joseph Edward Dysart comes of that strong, sturdy Scotch-Irish ancestry, of whom there are legions. Seventy-two summers and winters has he beheld the light of day. A well preserved man. He was born in Wayne Township, Mifflin County, Pa., April 30, 1858. James Dysart, his father resided in Wayne Township, Mifflin County, Pa., and married Delia Fike; both are deceased. Joseph Dysart has been many years a foreman at the Columbia Plant of the Pennsylvania Glass Sand Company of Mapleton, Pa. His knowledge of this business is extensive, he being experienced in all branches of this character of manufacture. His home is in Mapleton, Pa. For two years he served on the election board, and is a progressive Republican, a member of the I.O.O.F., Mountain City Lodge, No. 837. A member of the Presbyterian Church, an Elder, Superintendent of Sunday School and teacher of the Bible Class. He was married to Bertha McConahy. Have seven children: James, Leroy, Chas. W., J. Stewart, Paul, and Beulah. Louis C. Dysart is an officer in the Ordinance Department, Government Service. Mr. Dysart has certainly earned the respect of his workmen and also of the place where he resides.[10]
Joseph Edward Dysart died January 8, 1936 in Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon Co., Pennsylvania and was buried in Mapleton IOOF Cemetery, Huntingdon, Huntingdon Co., Pennsylvania.[11][12]
