Biography

John Dysart, son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Patterson or Peterson) Dysart, was born in October 1791 in Pennsylvania.[1]

John Dysart served in the War of 1812 as a Private, PA Militia Capt. Mathew Rodgers' Co., Col. Reese Hill Enlisted May 5, 1813 to Nov 5, 1813

John Dysart was married to Rebecca Cunningham, daughter of Nathaniel and Mary Cunningham, on Feb. 5, 1829, in Wayne Township, Newton-Hamilton, PA, by Rev. James Woods. They had seven children: Elizabeth who married Arthur H. Clark; Mary who married Samuel B. McCord; William who died in youth; Hannah who died at an early age; Margaret J. who married James N. Postlethwait; James Alexander; and Jonathan.[2]

John Dysart followed farming and stock-raising in Wayne Township, where he owned a farm of 118 acres. "Like his father, he was an upright man of strict veracity and respected by all. He was also a brave soldier in the war of 1812 against Great Britain. His constitution was undermined by exposure while in service, which led eventually to his death. He served his township as school director. He was a member of the Presbyterian church."

John Dysart died February 5, 1843 aged 51 yrs. 4 mo. at his farm in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. He was buried in United Methodist Cemetery, Newton Hamilton, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania.[3]
