Biography

Thomas Henderson Dysart, son of William and Lucinda (Henderson) Dysart, was born February 9, 1834 in Ohio.[1][2][3]

The 1850 U.S. Federal Census records “William Dysert,” age 44 born in PA, as a farmer living in Wheeling, Belmont Co., Ohio. In his household are Lucinda age 40 born in OH, Martha age 17 born in OH, Thomas age 15 born in OH, Nancy age 10 born in OH, Boyd age 6 born in OH, Rachel age 4 born in OH, and Elizabeth age 3 born in OH.[3]

Thomas Henderson Dysart connected with the United Presbyterian Church at Unity, Harrison Co., Ohio. He graduated at Franklin College, New Athens, Ohio in 1857, then studied theology at Seminary, Xenia, Ohio. He was licensed to preach the gospel April 10, 1861 by Wheeling Presbytery and ordained by the Presbytery of Chillicothe in June 1861.[1]

T.H. Dysart and Maggie Robinson were married May 29, 1861 in Union County, Ohio. Their license was issued on May 25, 1861.[4][1]

Thomas Henderson Dysart was pastor of Fall Creek United Presbyterian Church, Highland Co., Ohio 1861-1862; of United Presbyterian Church, Urbana, Ohio 1862 to the day of his death. He was a teacher of elocution and phonography. For six weeks during the War of the Rebellion he labored in the service of the Christian Commission, in Tennessee and Georgia, where he contracted the disease (chronic diarrhea) that terminated his life on August 2, 1864 at Urbana, Ohio.[1]

Rev. Thomas Henderson Dysart died August 2, 1864 aged 29 Y. 3 M. 23 D. at Urbana, Ohio and was buried in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana, Champaign County, Ohio.[1][5]
