Joseph Dyson was born in the Colony of Western Australia (1832-1900)

Joseph was born on 1 August 1845 in Perth, Western Australia. He was the son of James Dyson and Fanny Hoffingham.^[1]

He married Mary Ann Elsegood on 2 September 1872 in Perth.^[2] They had one son before Mary Ann died in 1874.

Joseph died on 19 May 1912 at 19 Robinson Street, North Perth.^[3]

DYSON.—On May 19, at Perth (suddenly), Joseph, the beloved father of Joseph Dyson, of the G.P.O., in his 67th year. Peace, perfect peace.^[4]

The funeral of the late Mr. Joseph Dyson, senr., of Robinson-street, North Perth, took place on Tuesday afternoon. The cortege moved from Messrs. C. H. Smith and Co.'s private mortuary, 281 Newcastle-street, Perth, and proceeded by road to the Wesleyan Cemetery, Karrakatta, where the re-mains were interred. The chief mourners were Mr. Joseph Dyson (son), Masters Guy and Roy Dyson (grandsons), Messrs John, Andrew, and Thomas Dyson (brothers), Mr. J. T. Smith (brother-in-law), and Messrs. E. Smith and W. Dyson (nephews). The pall-bearers were Messrs. J. Buckingham, J. Hayles, W. Koster, and J. Smith. Wreaths, floral tributes, and messages of condolence were received.^[5]

Notes

As one final insult to his poor mother, his father's second wife is given as the birth parent on his death certificate. Jane will not arrive in the Colony for another five years.
