Family Activity Feed

Once a week we send a summary of the activity in your Watchlist. We call this "WikiTree Family News."

In addition to profile activity, it includes Thank-Yous received that week and birthdays in your Watchlist coming up the following week. On most weeks we also include a Community Announcements section.

This update goes out to everyone watching any profiles, but only if there have been changes by others besides yourself, or if you're a new member.

You can opt-out of these updates on your Settings page. However, you should not opt out if you're a Wiki Genealogist who has signed the Honor Code.

Wiki Genealogy Feed

Once a day we send a summary of activity in all the profiles in surnames you are following.

We also include a G2G Feed with questions and answers that have been tagged with the surnames or project tags you're following.

This update only goes out to those who choose to follow surnames/tags.

You can opt-out of these updates on your Settings page.

New Member Email

A new registrant receives an email confirmation message.

When someone is invited to join WikiTree, as opposed to registering themselves, they receive an email with the invitation. If they accept the invitation the member who invited them receives a confirmation.

Comments on Managed Profiles and Replies to Comments

When someone posts a public comment on a profile you are managing you will receive an email with the comment. Also, if someone replies to one of your comments, regardless of where it is posted, you will receive an email if you opt to receive these messages when you post your comment. See Help:Comments for more information.

You can reduce the number of these you receive by managing fewer profiles. You can also opt-out of these messages on your Settings page. However, you should not opt out if you're a Wiki Genealogist who has signed the Honor Code.

G2G Answers and Comments

When asking, answering, or commenting on a question in G2G there is a checkbox that asks if you want to receive a notice by email if the question is answered or commented-on by others or if your answer is selected as the best.

Checking the box is optional. You can later edit your post to change your selection.

Merge Proposals

The manager of a profile will receive a merge request by email if someone proposes to merge a duplicate.

You can reduce the number of merge proposals you receive by managing fewer profiles.

Private Messages

Anyone can send a private message to a WikiTree member. This is a way for members to receive email about their ancestor profiles without revealing their email address.

Private messages are simply forwarded by WikiTree as email messages. The sender composes the message on a web form, but you receive it as normal email.

The ability to receive private messages via email is very important for WikiTree collaboration, and members cannot opt out of this feature. Active members must have a confirmed email address.

You can reduce the number of private messages you're likely to receive by managing fewer profiles.

Trusted List Requests

If someone requests to join the Trusted List of a profile you are managing you receive the request via email.

You can reduce the number of these you receive by managing fewer profiles.

If you're the one who sent the Trusted List request and it's approved, you'll receive a confirmation message.
