DNA

DNA testing has been done on several descendants of John Eddy of Woodbridge. The results show that he was not related to William Eddye of Cranbrook, Kent, England, John Eddy of Taunton, or Joseph Eddy of Michigan. Each family has a very different and distinct Y-DNA pattern. The results for most of the testing can be seen on the Eddy Family Association DNA Group at Ancestry.com. Some results are also at Family Tree DNA Eddy Project.

Biography

Revolutionary War veteran. Served in Middlesex County Militia. James was the son of John Eddy and Elizabeth Edwards. [1]

"James Eddy was born 17 Feb 1711 and was married to Mary Gach in 1741. Their children were:

Thomas Eddy 17 Dec 1743 Elizabeth Eddy 29 Sep 1745 Sarah Eddy 26 Feb 1747 John Eddy 15 Aug 1748 James Eddy 20 Mar 1750 William Eddy 5 Dec 1753 Mary Eddy 30 Oct 1755 Esther Eddy 10 Dec 1756 Jane Eddy. 21 Jun 1759 Samuel Eddy 26 Mar 1762 Martha Eddy 17 Dec 1764 Susan Eddy 14 Feb 1767

All of their twelve children lived to be men and women. The name was sometimes spelled Eddey.

James Eddy died on 19 August 1792. His wife Mary was born 20 March 1722 and died 8 Sep 1789." (CFG)

Mary's birth is listed elsewhere in CFG as 1721 - poss due to old style calendar. Elizabeth Eddy was the grandmother of Charles Frederic Grim and is the likely source for the data in the CFG Bible as she died in 1836.

R.S.D.. Eddy list the above children less John. Not all have birth dates noted and they are ordered differently.

Per R.S.D. Eddy "On Apr 11, 1774 he served as Moderator of the Town Meeting at Woodbridge and on June 2, 1766 he was made Surveyor of Highways. During the Revolutionary War he served as a Private in Cape Carter's Col Sylanus Seeley's Regiment Eastern Battalion, Morris County, NJ Militia. He was also a member of the War Commission with met May 7, !778. His sons also served in the War.

Sutton lists James Eddy as a Private in Middlesex County Militia ref: Stryker's pg 584. I did not copy other pages; James is the only Eddy on the page copied.

Eady-88 and Eddy-1396 appear to represent the same person because: Same dates and relationships.

I do not believe James Eddy had a second wife concurrent with his first (and lifetime) wife. I agree that the data for Eddy-88 is the same except for a second wife who is concurrent to the lifetime of wife Mary Gach and a child born several states away and in between children of his wife Mary Gach.

Suggest we remove Eleanor (Morgan) Eddy and her son from relationship to James Eddy (1710/11-1792).
