William was born about 1848. He is the son of Oscar Eanes and Phoebe Webster.

John Chandler per Eanes Family Book researched and written by Dr. Richard Henry Eanes around 1965.
"William was not a regular Confederate soldier, but in spite of his age, he saw some service as the end of the war was approaching, and to prevent arrest by the Federal Army, he followed Lee's Army when it passed his father's lawn, and he was near that army when it surrendered at Appomattox. He was a very successful farmer in Amelia County for many years."
