Biography

Private James Eanes served in the United States Civil War.

James was born 2 May 1806 in Chesterfield County Virginia, the 5th child of Edward Eanes and Nancy Hill. He was a tailor in Blountville Tennessee at the time of us mother’s death in 1842 and served as a private in the Civil War in Whites Sullivan County Tennessee reserve local troops. [1][2]. He had a first unrecorded wife but she died apparently without children when they lived in Kingsport Tennessee. James then married his 2nd wife Eliza Ann Cloud and settled in Blountville, Sullivan Co.[3], where they raised four children.

James Eanes was the Deputy Sheriff of Sullivan County.[4] Eliza and her husband both died after 1880. [5]

[6] EANES, JAMES GILL, son of Edward and Nancy Ann Hill Eanes, b. Chesterfield County, Virginia, May 2, 1806; m. 1st, party unknown, but they migrated to Kingsport, Tenn. where the wife died. There was no known issue, m. 2nd Elizabeth Cloud, dau. of Jeremiah and Judith Henderson Cloud, who was born in Tenn. James Gill Eanes was mentioned in his father's will in 1813 and again in his mother’s will in 1842, In the latter she stated that he lived in a western state. He is found in the 1860 census in Blountville, Sullivan County, Tennessee. His business was then that of a tailor. His descendants still live in or around Blountville.
