John Wilson Eason (Moses [and Hannah Rogers], Elijah [and Nelly]) was born on Apr 20 1839 in Union County, NC. He died on Aug 27 1919 in Union County, NC and was buried in Pleasant Grove Church-Campground Cemetery, near Mineral Springs, Union County, NC.
Census and Civil War Roster accounts report that John was a 22-year old farmer when he enlisted in the Company D, 37th Regiment of NC troops, September 16, 1861. He was captured at Hanover Court House, Virginia, May 27-28, 1862. He was confined at Fort Columbus, New York Harbor until he was paroled and transferred to Aiken's Landing, James River, Virginia July 12, 1862. The exchange was declared on August 5,1862 and he returned to duty prior to November 1, 1862. In November/December 1862, he was promoted to Corporal. He was wounded May 3, 1863 at Chancellorsville, Virginia. He returned to his duty prior to September1, 1863. January 1, 1865 he was promoted to Sergeant. John was captured in Virginia at Fort Gregg on April 1, 1865. He was confined at Point Lookout, Maryland until his release June 12, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.
Almost a year after his return home to Union County, John married Eliza Jane Rushing Niven on August 26, 1866 in Union County.
