Mavel East was born circa 1669, in Henrico county, Virginia, a daughter of Thomas East and Dorothy Thomas. Mavel married John Robinson 10 June 1690 at which time her father gave her a gift of “1/5 of a tract taken up by me, Robert Woodson, Sr., John Woodson, William Porter and Robert Clarke, 106 acres on the south side of White Oak Swamp, now is possession of John Robinson who married said Mavell East."
On 1 August 1704 “John Robinson of Henrico Co, planter, sold to Thomas East Jr of same,” 404 acres on the north side of James River for 500 pounds of tobacco plus £3/6. John’s wife Mavel relinquished her dower right. John Robinson died in 1721; his will was proven in July 1721.
A 16 May 1737 sale of 106 acres by “Thomas East of Hanover Co, son and heir of Thomas East, Sr of Henrico Co, dec’d,” to Sackvil Brewer of Henrico Co for £10 was for land on the south side of White Oak Swamp. The land was granted to Thomas East dec’d, William Porter, John Woodson, and Robert Clark. The land was “formerly given by Thomas East dec’d to his daughter Mavel East for life, which term being expired, land reverts to said Thomas East as heir at law.”
This Thomas of Hanover Co was Mavel’s brother, and the transfer by Thomas to Brewer shows that Mavel had recently died, and the land then reverted to her brother Thomas, whereby he sold it to Brewer. So Mavel’s death probably took place in early 1737.
In 1726 when Mavel’s father wrote his will, “Item I give unto Mary Alsope my daughter one-shilling.” Mavel's sister, Mary, had married William Alsop by then. Mavel is sometimes referred to as "Mavel "Mary" Alsop-Robinson, but this is a conflation of the two sisters.
