From Mary Margaret Easton Agler: "Edwin Ruthben Easton was my great grandfather. I was told by Wanda Engelbrecht (Easton) that he came to North Platte, NE with his family on the train from PA. The train trip took a week and they arrived in Apr of 1879. This information also indicates Edwin was of the Methodist Faith at that time via a letter from a C.C. Wilson. Wanda's information also tells that Edwin homesteaded in the North Platte area. (this info. provided to Wanda via Genevieve and Ike Easton. Ike aka Wiliam Clarence Easton: Edwin's youngest child) In 1999 I visited with Donna (Rodgers) Oliver: Elizabeth Easton's Daughter: about Edwin and Martha. Elizabeth told Donna about Edwin carrying mail by horse and buggy to the outlying towns and ranches in the hills around North Platte, NE. Some times bad weather would keep him away from home for several days at a time. This must have been a supplemental job to his farming. Edwin also worked for the railroad, but so far no one knows what job he held with the Union Pacific. The Easton homestead founded by Edwin was located north west of downtown North Platte and later was incorporated into the town on what is now 905 West 10th Street. When I was a child this is the home Uncle Ike (William C.) and aunt Genevieve lived in. In June 2000 I visited with cousin March Easton on the phone. He was calling from my mother's home in North Platte. He reminded me that Edwin and Martha also had property near the Dismal River located north of North Platte. My dad, Charlie Easton, often spoke of living on the Dismal River and in the BirdWood creek area during his childhood. (Maybe on this property mentioned by March) In the years 1965, 66 and part of 1967 my family lived next door to Genevieve and Ike, so it is as if we are part of the history of the Easton Homestead too."
