Biography

Lilly was born in 1867 and was with her parents in Kingston in 1871 and in Cobourg in 1881. She married Andrew G. Ross in Toronto in 1894, and they were in Toronto in 1901.

Footnotes

Online family trees have a confusion of Andrew G. Rosses. Although John Hawley Ross (born in Toronto, died in action near Ypres age 18) is said to be the son of Andrew G. and Lilly Ross, he is not with them in 1901, whereas a John H. Ross age 6 is listed with an Andrew and Maggie Ross in Ontario North, Mara Subdistrict, in 1901.

An Andrew G. Ross, born 2 September 1872, died 6 March 1916. In a 2111 photograph his headstone, in Elderslie Township, Bruce County, has the side left blank for his wife still blank. John Hawley Ross (died near Ypres, age 18) is recorded on the headstone. http://geneofun.on.ca/names/photo/1302423. This Andrew G. Ross, father of John Hawley Ross, was in Saskatchewan in 1915 (see John's attestation paper, Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force, Halifax, 25 August 1915).

A Lily Ross, widowed, age 53, was in Toronto South, Ward 4, in 1921. But according to the census record she and her parents were born in the United States, and if so could not be our Lilly Ross. Who, according to some family trees, died in 1910.

These records remain to be straightened out.

Records of Andrew and Lillian (Armson Bowles) Ross in Manitoba during 1901-1916 are not our Andrew and Lilly.
