Stephen was born in 1819 to Col. Amos Eaton and Sarah Harris. He married Mary Parker in 1842 and had 10 children (see below). He was a Farmer. He died at age 64 in 1883 and was buried at Pugwash Junction, Cumberland Co., Nova Scotia.
