The family moved to Illinois by 1816.

About 1835 Benjamin moved from Madison Co, Il to Macoupin County and settled in North Otter Township. (The land above is on the west line of Girard township. North Otter township is right next to it, across Henry Rd)

He must have made a visit to Tennessee between 1821-32 (probably around 1830) to see his father, since his son, Noah Hampton, who was born in Illinois in 1821, seems to have at least met his grandfather, who lived in Tennessee and died there in 1832.
