Mary "Polly" Eby, the daughter of Christian Eby and an unnamed mother who was believed to be "a Huber/Hoover" was born in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania around 1760.[1]
She married Jacob Hiestand of York county, Pennsylvania some time around 1775, and their first daughter was born in Hopewell in about 1776.[2] She was enumerated in the 1790 U.S. Census with her husband and children in Hopewell.[3]
Based on land purchase records, we know that the young family moved to Botetourt County, Virginia in 1792.[4] Her two eldest daughters were married there.[5][6]
In 1806, the family sold their property in Virginia and moved to Highland County, Ohio.[7] Her two eldest daughters and their husbands joined the family in 1810.[8]
She and her husband settled in the town that would be named Sinking Spring.[8] She was enumerated with her family (though not named) in the 1820 census of Brush Creek, Ohio.[9]
She died in 1822 and is buried beside her husband in the Suiter-Williams Cemetery.[1]
Research Notes
Although Ezra Eby's Biographical history states that Christian married "a Huber" there is no record to verify this, or that gives her forename. At this point we have no evidence that Catharine Huber was her mother. I have removed Catharine, with this note, pending future sources.
