Hello Pat, We might share a 19th century ancestor. I just entered information for Anna Romain, a sister to my maternal grandfather. Both of our Annas were born in 1860 in New Jersey. Take a look at what I have and if you think they're connected, merge them!
Pat , one book that may be helpful is Unpuzzling Your Past: A Basic Guide to Genealogy by Emily Anne Croom. If you want to buy one, Amazon has it . Also many local libraries have a basic genealogy section .
Pat , I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your son. How painful. You seem very wise about embarking on a new diversion to heal from the loss . I find that doing family history keeps me close to my loved ones. WikiTree is like a " wikipedia" but only for genealogy. We create the pages/profile. Each member of the family gets a profile ( like your own ) . Please do not ever hesitate if you run into some walls ~ either in the technology of the site or just in genealogy in general. We also have privacy settings for the profiles .
Pat, this is the message I give to new people :Welcome aboard to Wikitree
If you need any help getting started, make sure to read <a href = " http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/How_to_use_WikiTree">How to use WikiTree for Yourself</a>.
We do emphasize Sources at WikiTree as well as dates and locations as you build your family tree here .
Thank you and if you have any questions , please feel free to ask .
Maggie
After losing my son to cancer this year, and realizing the lose of watching him experience the blessings of a family of his own, I became interested in my own roots. I have no experience and my web searches have yielded nothing but opportunities to "buy information" without knowing what I am getting. I am interested in learning how to proceed and delighted to find this site.
