From wikipedia.de "Deutsches Kaiserreich ist die nachträgliche Bezeichnung des Deutschen Reiches für die Epoche von seiner Gründung 1871 bis zum Ende der Monarchie in der Novemberrevolution von 1918" Why did you change "Deutsches Kaiserreich" to "Deutsches Reich"? Please provide source for your edits. Klaus

posted by Klaus (Böhm) Boehm

Hi, Jelena. In this edit (https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Hammer-2186&diff=185965730&oldid=124224748) you changed the Bavarian spelling "Kinereich" to the German spelling "Königreich", but I'm not sure why you did that. Shouldn't locations in Bavaria use the Bavarian version of the placename?
posted by Matthew Wilson
The official language in Bavaria is German. Bavarian is by most scholars considered a dialect of German. There is hardly any use of a Bavarian literary language. That's why I changed it to German.

Re: John August Saam, I saw that you had edited the first and middle names by combining them into the first and preferred names. At first I was taken aback mostly because I spend a lot of time separating the first and middle names on American profiles that were gedcom creations (not this profile) from back when they were allowed, and first and middle names were often combined in the first name field. Since you didn't leave any explanation for what you did, I went ahead and changed it back to the original. Then, after further research as to why you would make that alteration in the first place, I learned the reasoning behind your work, and have since redone your edit. I like it when I learn new things. Thanks.

I only followed the Germany Project Name Field Guidelines, which clearly say: "All given names should be entered in the Proper First Name field in the order listed on the birth document. It is common in Germany for a person to have multiple given names - the German culture does not have the concept of middle names." So this is the valid point here.

Yes indeed. I get that. Thanks again.

Hi! Just a reminder - if a profile is managed by the Germany Project, it needs to display the project box. See the German Roots table here for profiles that don't (or which have the project box but aren't managed by the project, but there aren't any of those to fix this week).

I've been working on these in the past, but I'm trying to reduce my "WikiTree time", so I won't be looking at these in the future. As PC for Managed Profiles of the Germany Project, please check weekly for new problems (it's fairly easy to maintain, but took me a couple of months earlier this year to clear them).

Profiles that need corrections this week:

Cheers, Liz

Just a reminder: I am not the Project Leader. If you have stuff that only the leader can do, please post your message on Dieter Lewerenz' profile (Lewerenz-9)
posted by Jelena Eckstädt
You don't have to be a leader to monitor this & you don't have to be a leader to fix the problem unless (1) the profile is not open or (2) the project DOES want to manage the profile and you are not a profile manager (meaning you cannot add the project account as a manager).

None of the profiles that I listed appear to me to need project management and all of them are either open or managed by you (which means you can fix the problem). As the project's PC for managed profiles, I thought that you would be the person to determine whether or not a profile should be managed by the project & could then refer any profiles that need a Leader to add the project account to the Germany Project's leader.

posted by Liz (Noland) Shifflett
Project Boxes can be only put on the profiles by the Project Leaders (see here). And I am no Leader. I only told you to go to the Project Leader Dieter Lewerenz, when the task is something a leader has to do. Nothing else.

At least the 4 von Schirach-profiles need Project Management, because all of them are living Notables that have to be managed by a Project to be visible.

For genealogy, I think more people should have two surnames like the Spanish. I am looking at Tamez_Galindo-1. It is very easy to see that his son, Antonio (Tamez_Bermea-2), had a father with the first surname "Tamez" and his mother's first surname was "Bermea".

Hi Jelena, I see you've changed some location names for my relatives including Stanislaus Derdzinski (1868-1955) and Katherine (Coda) Mlodzik (1854-1935). Can you tell me where to find the guidance for this so I get it right? It's distressing to see these changes happen without understanding the rules under which they're being changed. ~ Also, you've change the first and middle names on my relative Jerome Charles Dretzka (1881-1963). Again, I would appreciate a link to the Wikitree guidance. His middle name comes from a USA document, as far as I know he didn't have that middle name in Poland. Thanks, Deb

edited by Deb (Langsdorf) Gunther
Hi Deb, the Location Field Style Guide says this: "We aim to use the name that was used in that place, at the time of the event you're recording." At the time of the birth of both Stanislaus and Katherine, their birth town was part of Prussia. This means that according to the Style Guide, the town names should be recorded in German.

Neither in Poland nor in Germany there is the concept of "middle names". All given names come into the First Name Field. "Karl" or "Karel" is the German or Polish version of Charles and was not only used as "call name", the name a person was known with, but also as a following name. We can't prove it, since you don't have documents that originate in Poland, but I suppose that it is a name he already had in Poland. That's why I put it out of the Middle Name Field. Jelena

Hi Jelena. I think you have incorrectly edited some profiles I manage like Gottlieb Pfitzner (1827-). You have added Deutscher Bund to the birth field when Posen was not part of the Deutscher Bund. Apart from Posen, I appreciate the corrections you are making. Regards, Steve.

According to the German Wikipedia-entry, the Provinz Posen existed from 1815 to 1920. With these categories I refer to the German Wikipedia rather than the ones in other languages. Also other websites like the "Kulturstiftung der deutschen Vertriebenen", which is supported by the German government says on its website that "already in 1815 the Prussian King named the first Oberpräsident for the area of Posen".
