Note

Sarah's maiden name is not listed in the Patton Family Bible so I have not confirmed who her parents are. Again, I think location is key and that we should be looking in the area where she married.

Note: Info from Dorothy Shugart: The following is what I have on Sarah Eads. There are several ways to spell the name,Eads,Eades,Eade,Ede,Edes and they all are used interchangeably. Father was Thomas Eads Mother was Charlotte Smith Married 25 June 1800 at St Peter Parmentagate, Norwich, Norfolk, Eng.

Sarah was born about 1806-1808, so this makes sense that the census says Norfolk. She had a sister Charlotte born a couple of years before her and I think a brother Thomas before that. I have not confirmed him at this time.I found a christening for Sarah on 1 April 1825 at Kesole,Suffolk,Eng, with a mother being Charlotte Eade. She was married 1825 so that makes sense.Her sister Charlotte married William Thomas Abbott on 13 June 1825 at Saint Dunstat Stepney, London and they had three daughters Hermalinda born 1830, Leopoldina born 1832, and Alvera Sarah born 1834. The family came to Reading in Pennsylvania and the girls married there. This family has a fascinating story to tell but it is long and needs time.

The tower hotel at the top of a mountain in Penns was built by one son in law, one of the others had a steel milling business during the civil war in georgia and made cannons for the war.

Norfolk is the shire north of Suffolk which makes sense as to the locations of people. I had been in touch with a gal who was a relative of Charlotte and she gave me alot of information. There is still so much more to find out.

Oh by the way do either of you reckonize the name John Bender with a wife named Elizabeth. I found in the 1880 census for New Jersey, Camden Dist 38, Page 23 or 12 a William Patton age 19 and a sister Marion age 16. It says he was born NJ and she was born PA and that they are nephew and niece. Wonder who this Elizabeth is, could she be a sister to our Anna.

Some of the later dates are written in pencil in a different hand so I am assuming it was originally written by Elizabeth Cooper Patton or Sarah Ede Patton (or both).
