Bill Edgar was shot down while on a bombing mission over Hustedt, Germany. His body was recovered, though badly burned, and he was buried by locals as "Unknown American." Later, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission exhumed the body and identified it through the other crew members buried with them. He was re-buried in Hanover Cemetery, Germany.
