In 1939, Mrs. Elnora Edgar Buchanan announced her resignation from the Harris County Public Library to join her husband, the Rev. Wayne Buchanan in his new parish in Boerne, TX. [11]

In the 1940 Census in Boerne, TX, we find Wayne and Elnora Buchanan in a rented house. He is a Minister who worked 52 weeks in the previous year with an income of $1,200 for the previous year. His wife, Elnora, lists no occupation but worked 40 weeks in the previous year with an income of $2,250. (?!!)

Three days before the attack on Pearl Harbor, on the 4th of December 1941, a daughter, Stephanie Jane Buchanan, was born to Wayne and Elnora at Nix Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

Reverend Wayne Buchanan baptized his daughter, Stephanie, on the 25th of January 1942 at St. Helena's Episcopal Church, Boerne, TX. On the 28th of January 1942, 1st Lt. Rev. Buchanan entered the Chaplains' Corp of the US Army and was appointed Chaplain to Camp Blanding, Florida.

Elnora and her baby girl moved to 315 Alta Ave., Alamo Heights, San Antonio to be near her sister, Maurine and her family. Whenever possible, Norey and Steph would join Wayne as he served at Camp Bowie, Texas; Camp Shelby, MS; and Camp Pickett, VA before going overseas in 1943.

An apartment in Austin on W. 14th street is where Norey and Stephanie spent the duration of the war. There they were close to Elnora's mother, Mother Dove (as Dovie Jane was known by to her grandchildren.) Wayne and Elnora wrote to each other almost every single day that they were apart during the war.

After the war, the Episcopal Diocese appointed Wayne rector of St. Mary's, Bellville, TX. There Norey entered her daughter into grade school. In 1949, Wayne was appointed associate rector of St. Mark's, Beaumont [3] The 1950 Census finds the Buchanan family at 1657 Victoria, Beaumont, Texas. Wayne is listed as a clergyman.

The Buchanans moved next to Hot Springs, Arkansas where Rev. Buchanan assigned to the pastorate of St. Luke's Episcopal church. During their sixteen years there, Elnora and Wayne saw their daughter through high school and then going off to Texas to ultimately graduate from the University of Texas, Austin.

In August of 1969, Wayne and Elnora moved back to Texas to serve at St. Phillip's Episcopal Church in Hearne, TX. [3] They lived at the Episcopal Church rectory at 1003 Magnolia St. [3] Elnora, Wayne and their daughter, Stephanie, were instrumental in establishing St. Michael's Academy in Bryan, TX which continued until 2018.

In 1973, the Buchanans moved back to Arkansas. This time to serve St. Francis in Heber Springs, Arkansas. There Wayne was able to enjoy boating and fishing and, with Elnora, the company of their grandchildren.

In 1985, Wayne and Elnora made their final big move to the Capital District of New York near where their daughter, Stephanie, had settled with her family. Elnora died there in 1987. Rev. Charles Wayne Buchanan passed away in 1993. Their ashes were returned to St. Francis in Heber Springs.
