Lillis (sometimes listed as Lilley or Lilly) Edgar was born 21 May 1798, according to her gravestone decades later, and she listed South Carolina as her birthplace on at least two censuses. Sources list her parents as John Edgar and his wife, Mary.
By 1816, she was in Tennessee, where she and Ezekiel Inman married in Williamson County. They may have been living in Pulaski County, Missouri, in 1840, that year's census finding an Ezekeal Innman [sic] living there with a free white female aged 40 to 50. Lillis would have been 42 at the time, but the vague nature of the census makes it hard to be sure this is the same family.
Ezekiel was issued a land patents for properties in Dent County, Missouri, in 1848, 1849, 1853, 1859 and 1860. The 1860 census is really the first solid proof so far of Ezekiel and Lillis, finding her and Ezekiel living by themselves with one of their sons living on the neighboring property. By 1870, Ezekiel had died, and Lillis was living with an L.A. Wofford, 20, possibly a granddaughter.
Lillis died 5 Aug 1873 and buried along with her husband in Wofford Cemetery in Dent County.
Some researchers list her as Lillis Hester Edgar, but I haven't found the name Hester in primary sources so far.
